Career and Life Management (CALM) 20

The aim of CALM is to enable students to make well-informed, considered decisions and choices in all aspects of their lives and to develop behaviours and attitudes that contribute to the well-being and respect of self and others, now and in the future.   This Aim is expressed through three outcomes:

Personal Choices - Students will apply an understanding of the emotional/psychological, intellectual, social, spiritual and physical dimensions of health in managing their personal well-being.

Resource Choices - Students will make responsible decisions in the use of finances and other resources that reflect personal values and goals and demonstrate commitment to self and others.

Career and Life Choices - Students will develop and apply processes for managing personal, lifelong career development. 

CALM is a required course for High School graduation.

 

Learning Strategies 15, 25 and 35


These courses help you learn strategies to be successful in high school and beyond and how to make a smooth transition to post secondary or the workforce.

 

Workplace Essential Skills 25 and 35

These courses assist students in developing the skills required for successful employment and lifelong citizenship. 

 

Workplace Safety Systems HCS3000

Students gain the attitudes, knowledge and skills related to workplace health and safety and examine relevant legislation required in the workplace.  This course is a pre-requisite course for all off-campus learning experiences (Work Experience 15, 25 and 35) as well as for 'Workplace Safety Practices' (HCS3010).

 

Job Preparation CTR1010

Students develop successful employment serach skills and a personal employment search portfolio. This course is a pre-requisite for 'Preparing for Change' CTR3010. 

 

Workplace Safety Practices HCS3010

Students explore workplace safety principles and practices, and apply these principles and practices to a variety of contexts.  'Workplace Safety Systems' HCS3000 is a pre-requisite for HCS3010. This course is recommended for the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP). 

 

Career Directions - Expansion CTR2310

Students build on work done in Career and Life Management (CALM) to update their learning/career plan, to enhance their career tool kit, and to update their action plan for strengthening essential competencies and learning capacity.  There is no pre-requisite for this course. 

 

Career Directions - Transitions CTR3310

Students build on work done in Career Directions - Explansion CTR2310 to update their learning/career plan, and to ensure their career tool kit can support them as they make the transition from high school into the workplace or post-secondary learning. There is no pre-requisite for this course.
